History

HI KIDS Network came to be through the vision of multiple parents throughout the state of North Carolina. It was their hope this network would accomplish some basic goals.

This first was to give parents a vehicle to locate other parents that have gone through or currently going through a similar situation. These situations could deal anywhere from medical, educational, child's rights, to just plain everyday life issues raising a hearing impaired child.

The second was to help address a need for parent groups to communicate throughout the state. Different parent groups have found other groups had knowledge to share. In other circumstances some parent groups have wanted to co-sponsor group meetings and special events.

The final part was to help solve those times when parents need more than one voice and being networked can help parents with similar problems.

Funding

HI KIDS Network is a not for profit group. All HI KIDS Network events are totally made possible by parent and professional volunteers. This Network is only as good as the parents make it.

Funding and creation of this web site was made possible by donations and time of parents. To keep the cost down for the web site, we rely on free services from other web sites on the internet. The only advertisements you will see directly on this web site will be those giving us free services. You may get redirected, by utilizing the free services of a web site. If this happens, we do not have any control over the advertisements you see there.

Guidelines

The guidelines listed below are still in draft and subject to change.

All participates within the network shall respect each parent's decision on the communication mode / education method they have chosen for their hearing impaired child. This network is not meant to be used as a vehicle to debate strategies, but may be used as a vehicle to share experiences and knowledge on different approaches.

Any parent group that is organized and run by parents with hearing impaired children can be part of the HI KIDS Network consortium. If interested in joining the consortium or finding out more information contact us at centralnc@hikids.org.

Professionals that work with hearing impaired children are welcome to participate and utilize resources of the HI KIDS Network.
