FRIENDS AND FAMILIES ! (Sponsored by the
Guilford
Center's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program and Communication Services for the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing.) A special family night to get to know other families who have experienced familial deafness. Children
and families utilizing any method of communication are welcome. Parents will be able to get involved with interactive discussion opportunities between parents and professionals by having different special interest topics presented that are relevant to your life experience as well as evening full of facilitated group discussions and social activities. Parents will also receive handouts full of resources that will be helpful to you in caring for your child in the years to come. If parents cannot attend each session, they are still welcome to attend when they can. At the same time, children will be able to participate in a variety of structured activities. Older children will have the opportunity to participate in FRIENDS group events. They will work on special projects during group meetings as well as play and hang out with other deaf and hard of hearing children who've experienced familial deafness. Younger children will be able to play together in a supervised setting. WHEN: Meets during school year. Approximately every two weeks. Contact Kelle Owens for more information.
